Digital Social Protection Project: Building African Workers’ Power in the Digital Age

The Africa Platform for Social Protection (APSP), in partnership with Institute for Development Studies – Sussex University (team lead) and HomeNet (home-based workers), ATUMENT/ITUC (migrant workers), JONAPWD (disabled workers) and Paradigm Initiative are implementing a 2023–2025 project to strengthen workers’ influence in digital social protection systems.

The project raises awareness, generates evidence, and advocates for rights-based, inclusive social protection, including the ratification of the AU Protocol on Social Protection and Social Security. It focuses on informal and digital economy workers, linking social protection, workers’ rights, and climate resilience. Through studies, policy briefs and multi-stakeholder engagement, the initiative promotes equitable, sustainable, and resilient social protection across Africa.
