The APSP works closely with the EAC to influence the social protection policy environment in the East African region. Although all the partner states are implementing social protection programmes including cash transfers, the legal and policy frameworks in social protection remain weak. In order to, promote a harmonized framework on addressing issues of social protection in the region, the APSP is supporting the EAC Secretariat in the development of a policy on social protection. The APSP’s work with the EAC will hopefully realize the development and adoption of an EAC policy on social protection, as well as promote the adoption of child-sensitive social protection in the design and implementation of social protection programmes in the region.
