Convening, Learning and Evidence

The Complex socio-economic challenges on the continent and globally, including poverty, inequality, and vulnerability to shocks, state and non-state actors must enhance their effectiveness through convening, learning, and evidence-based approaches. This is important to:

  • Foster Collective Action: Bringing together different actors, including policymakers, researchers, and grassroots organizations, strengthens advocacy efforts and ensures inclusive social protection policies.
  • Enhance Policy Influence: Joint engagement helps create a unified voice that can push for policy reforms, increased budget allocation, and better implementation of social protection programs.
  • Share good Practices: Convening platforms allow CSOs to exchange experiences and strategies, enabling them to replicate successful social protection initiatives across Capacity Building: Training and skill development ensure that CSOs stay updated on emerging trends in social protection, including innovative financing models and digital solutions.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Learning from past successes and failures helps organizations refine their strategies and improve program delivery.
  • Adaptability: The dynamic nature of social protection requires CSOs to learn and adapt to new policies, technologies, and socio-economic shifts to remain relevant.
  • Generating Research and Data: Collecting and analyzing data on social protection programs helps identify gaps, assess impact, and develop informed recommendations.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Regular assessments ensure that interventions are achieving their intended outcomes and provide insights for improvement.
  • Advocacy through Evidence: Policymakers are more likely to act on social protection reforms when CSOs present compelling data and case studies demonstrating the need for change.

Conclusion

In the African context, where social protection systems are still evolving, convening, learning, and evidence generation are crucial for CSOs to drive meaningful change. Strengthening collaboration, continuously enhancing knowledge, and leveraging data will enable CSOs to advocate effectively, implement impactful programs, and contribute to the realization of inclusive and sustainable social protection systems across the continent.
