Executive Summary

The Stakeholders consultative meeting on the social Assistance Bill 2018, was held from 26th -27th October 2018. The meeting was a follow up to the meeting that was held on 23rd March 2018, between social protection stakeholders in Kenya and the Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare, during which it was agreed that there is need for regular consultations on the process of developing a new Social Assistance Law in Kenya.

The consultative workshop provided an opportunity to Members of Parliament of the Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare, government departments and non-state actors to jointly review the draft Social assistance Bill 2018. Apart from understanding practices from other parts of the world in relation to social assistance law, the  workshop enhanced the knowledge of the participants on the gaps in the proposed social assistance law.
