The 2nd EAC Child Rights Conference, 25th – 26th August 2016 was held in Nairobi. Dubbed Investing in Children, the conference brought together over 100 participants, including children from the five partner states. The conference addressed various aspects including coordinated approaches in conflict and emergency response, ending violence against children, health education, child sensitive social protection, and resourcing for children among others. The conference was held as a response to review progress and reaffirm the strong commitment of the EAC in promoting, protecting and fulfilling the rights of all children in the region. Child participation was a strong element in the conference, with children empowered to articulate issues that affect their well being.  Objectives of the conference included:

a)      To share experiences on the progress made in the realisation of Child Rights in the EAC and address the challenges.

b)      To identify and raise awareness on issues that negatively impact on the realisation of Child Rights in the EAC.

c)      To provide a platform for facilitating children participation in the EAC integration process.

d)     To launch the adopted EAC Child Policy and discuss implementation.
